IHS Summer Seminars - Learn about liberty this summer
This summer take an intellectual vacation by attending a free, weeklong Summer Seminar hosted by the Institute for Humane Studies.
Join top faculty and students from around the world to learn about classical liberal ideas and how they apply to topics in history, law, philosophy, economics and more. There's no cost to attend - just bring your interest in discussing and learning about freedom. IHS covers materials, housing, and meals.
Choose from 11 seminars that vary by topic and complexity, with many focused on careers. Learn about globalization at Poverty and Prosperity, get an introduction to the ideas of freedom at Exploring Liberty, or examine the philosophical foundations of free markets at Morality, Capitalism & Freedom. Locations range from Orange, CA, to Chicago, IL, to Winston-Salem NC.
At an IHS seminar you'll sharpen valuable skills:
  • Learn how to identify the root causes of political problems so you can recommend effective, unique solutions. Would stronger private property rights curb pollution?
  • Sharpen your ability to state and support your views during discussion groups, the nightly social, and meals. What do you think is the right role for government in the economy and will you pass the maple syrup?
  • Explore a career option and network with peers at a seminar on K-12 education, public policy, or journalism. How can you combine advancing liberty with a career?

Enthusiastic faculty and rewarding discussions make these seminars what college is supposed to be:

  • Lectures, discussion groups, and more. You'll switch between learning, discussing, playing Frisbee, and just relaxing on campus.
  • Faculty who support individual rights. Finding liberty-friendly professors at your school may be difficult, but not at an IHS seminar.
  • Fellow students who agree with you. If there's one thing you'll learn from attending an IHS Summer Seminar, you're not alone. Meet others who are interested in non-governmental, voluntary solutions.

Past participants rave about IHS Summer Seminars:

"IHS seminars offer an unparalleled opportunity to spend a week immersed in good conversation and the ideas of classical liberalism." - Daniel Layman, Ohio University, on the Scholarship & a Free Society seminar

"Never in my life have I been surrounded by such an intellectual and diverse group. I will travel home both richer in knowledge and perspective." - Adam Matzke, Northwood University, on the Morality, Capitalism & Freedom seminar

The application deadline is March 31. Apply by March 15 to receive a free book, such as The Law or Radicals for Capitalism.

Topics, dates, and the locations for all 11 seminars are available at www.TheIHS.org/seminar.
